XRB Dashboard

XRB is is an organisation that develops and issues reporting standards on accounting, audit and assurance, and climate, for entities across the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors.

A challenge that they had was that their accounting standards documents were all in PDF or DOCX formats which were not easily accessible. To address this, XRB wanted a new system to upload, digitise and present their standards documents to their users without having to go page by page on their website and download files.

The challenge

This project required three things to come together: firstly creating a method through which users can find the documents, secondly creating a user interface to view a selected standard and navigate its contents and thirdly allow for the uploading of the original PDF and DOCX files for be converted into html content.

Final outcomes

The final result allows has a navigation page where users can search and filtering the various categories of accounting standards documents and a document viewer screen.

This displays the full document with a smart content panel that reads the structure of the original document and converts the headers into navigable hyperlinks that allow the user to quickly find the required section of the standard.

In the scenario that the automatic conversion process can’t correctly interpret the file due to formatting inconsistency I helped design a polishing system in the CMS that allows the admin user to restructure the document so that the sections and headings still make sense in the final standards page.

This uses simple colour coded blocks that can be clicked and dragged into place to adjust the hierarchy and order of information.
